hey guys i got a question i have a 85 gsl-se and i need to know the best break upgrade i can get...i hurd that sloted rotors are bad just get cross drillid ime not racing my car so i dont think i need the slotted but i would like cross drilled i have an unlimited budget as i am just gettin an idea...o and i found amotor on ebay built for a plane but its got a gsl se plate on it should bult iin its ported and its got the 1986 rotors with 2 mm apex seals brand new never ran with also counter balanced??? wuts that and how will it improve it.... its 1200 us buy it now but i contacted the seller and he was willing 2 let it go for 500...can i get some info on the counter balancing?
Wow, all that reading and I'm still not sure where you got the idea that slotted rotors aren't good. Some brands are worse than others, sure, but slotted are better than nothing. Honestly though, you have GSL-SE brakes. You have better than the majority of us already. To top that off - if you are stock or slightly modded, you don't need to upgrade brakes.
Even just upgrading to a streetported 13B shouldn't be enough power to run your brakes down. You have to realize that the only reason you get slotted or cross drilled brakes is to cool the brakes off faster, and if you aren't racing your car then you aren't going to be hard on your brakes, and therefore there is no reason to upgrade. Just throwing money down the drain for something that ultimately is just going to be appearance based.
As far as the balancing goes, it just means that the engine is evenly weighted as it rotates. You don't have to worry about problems that could be caused while the rotors are spinning due to uneven weight.
If the 13B comes with everything attached to it ready to drop in, I'd pay 500 for it. Perhaps a bit more, but I think that 1,200 is too much for it.

The reason I say that 1,200 is too much for the engine is because of the lack of description. He isn't saying that the engine is freshly rebuilt, who rebuilt it, or anything about the engine at all really. For all I know the rebuild could have 50,000 miles on it, and could be on its last leg of life. Then there is the fact that even if it is a freshly rebuilt engine, who is to say the guy who is trying to sell it didn't slop together the engine as quickly as possible? That is why I said that 1,200 dollars was far too much. Knowing who rebuilt the motor, and a round about of how many miles were on the engine would be an entirely different story, considering a rebuild kit alone costs just over 1,000 dollars, and that is before the cost of labor for the rebuild.
