Brake Coolers!

Got my brake coolers installed! The backing plate was cut to fit from a 79, and the current car is an 82. Now, are the sway bars in the front different from the SA and FB? My brake coolers mount, but when I turn they will hit the sway bar. Either the Sway bar or the coolers have to go, but I dont want to lose either!

Any help? Pics of SA strut bars or modification help? Thanks guys!

i would suggest if you dont want to loose anything that you should do a lil bit of fabrication

Yeah, I was trying my best to avoid custom fabbing something. Might look into an aftermarket sway bar or something

An aftermarket bar will still sit in the same position, youll have to modify the coolers to work around the bar. If you toss the bar your handling will go down the crapper.

theyre right. i REALLY dont suggest even driving the car without a front sway bar.

your best bet, get the coolers made so the tube is on the backside instead of the front. an aftermarket sway bar will be in teh same position as the stock one, except theyre bigger.

On the backside is the caliper. I found a sway bar that curves inward and then attaches in the same point, just have to find it again.

You know... we had them mounted with 1" bump steer spacer blocks and a ground control coilover kit originally and cleared fine... you think maybe the reason it isn't clearing is about 1"?

Couldn't you switch to vented discs and avoid the problem altogether?

The bump steer blocks move the suspension arms down 1" from normal... they go right under the mounting position of the spindel. It is normally used for cars with a 1" drop to keep the suspension geometry the same. Respeed sells some pretty cheap.

Ah, thanks man! Could I use that on stock suspension, or would that cause binding?

No. The blocks will not create binding.

^^ They are vented, the brake coolers push air into the backside of the rotor near the center, pushing air through the vents
