brackets are coming off the sides of radiator

the brackets are coming off the sides of my 82 radiator
they look like if they where glued on or something....
any suggestions on how to make the stick????

I had the same problem on my 83. I took it to the Rad shop. They cleaned both parts with a grinder and then soldered the bracket back on the tank. Cost was $15.

I soldered my own brackets back on a couple months ago. I cleaned the old solder and used some new acid core solder and a propane torch. It turned out well for being my first time.

yes, solder is a really great way to fix. make sure the surface area is clean and the sloder is heated properly and evenly. it holds suprisingly well. also, you can braze the brackets. works very well. same applies to the brazing.

It has to be soldered on, very simply to do, just wire brush the hell out of it. If you dont want to do it, a radiator shop will do it quickly and cheaply.

wrong kind of solder. solid core lead free solder is what's used.

The acid core package said Radiators on it, so I got it. So how bad can it be?

It all has to do with its holding/pressure capabilities. The solid stuff he's talking about you need to use flux still but brush on, just as you do with home plumbing. The acid core stuff is just a new faster way, and might yeild slight holding power, but not likely being its not under pressure there. If it doesnt work the first time, re-do it or get a new rad for $200

took it to radiator shop and had it done for $20.00
