boredom + pacesetter header

I am going to put together a new exhaust system here pretty soon so i thought i'd yank the pacesetter header off the parts car and try to clean it up.

its really too bad i have no before pics, it was nasty, already a heavy coat of surface rust and all sorts of weird baked on liquids. i was sure to wear a mask when grinding that off.

anyway's a few hours later and it's looking pretty good, i know it will just rust over again and clearcoat wont work, but i have this anti-rust clear paint i found at home hardware that might be worth a shot after i've cleaned it up a little more.

Looks pretty good. Now, cut that collector off and do a true dual setup like I did.

i never thought of doing that, making it that way could be very RB-like. i'll probably just stick with single pipe from header to a resonator, then run two magnaflow straight through mufflers back to back to keep it somewhat quiet.

i was running 1 magnaflow and 1 cheapo ebay resonator before and it sounded like ***, i may even throw a glasspack into the mix to deapen the sound.

Do you have much luck getting the PaceSetter Header to fit? I thought of buying one as a cheap alternative to the RB but always heard of fitment issues.

Thanks

high temp rtv is your friend..... the only issues i've heard of with fitment and pacesetters is flange warpage... usually can be cured with a new exhaust gasket and lots of rtv.....

I would highly suggest a true dual setup. There is a reason why thats the high performance exhaust that RB sells for the 2nd gens. Its not as loud either for some reason. I've only got one magnaflow on each pipe and it sounds quite nice. Deep tone while being perfectly livable. The system is as follows: Pacesetter header with collector cut off and dual outlet flange from RB welded on, 2 2" pipes running back under the axle, one on each side of the car, 2 magnaflow 18x5x8 offset/center mufflers out back exiting one on each side of the car.

the flange was warped when i got it right out of the box, i had that machined down and now it fits like a glove. as for cheap welds and stuff, they've held up fine so far.
