Blown engine?

Well I just bought my first 7 for a fair 600cad. Trouble is, is that the previous owner over heated it. Later he started it back up but it blew white smoke. Then (again much later) couldn't start it up at all. I'm sure the starter is scewered over but I'm hoding fingers crossed for the engine. The car has been sitting for a year now... until I tow it next week.

Opinions? What are the craracteristics of a blown engine?

Overheating, followed by large amounts of white smoke out the tailpipe is a sure sign of a blown coolant seal. I have seen some that don't smoke, but bubble into the cooling system instead. Either one requires a rebuild.

Blown coolant seal can be 'temporarily' fixed (for a year or two, then repeat) with the fix employing colloidally suspended copper that many of us have done successfully. Takes a day of attention, but easier than a rebuild.
