Blow Through 12A Tuning Questions

I hear a lot of people talking about the same stuff when it comes to turbo's and 12A's, and everyone says tuning is the key. When I started my project, I had a 1984 N/A 12A. I knew that the project was going to be big, and there would be a lot of fab involved, but it's all done now. My real problem is tuning. I have just picked up a 48mm sidedraft dellorto carb and racing beat intake, which will hopefully replace the clunky old nikki which even with my "amazing" turbo prepping skills, was dramatically sub-par. I just recently acquired a wideband O2 Sensor from AEM to try and get the mixture just right, but was really wondering what could be done about spark. How do I know if my spark is firing at the right time? And what about the vacuum advance on the stock distributor? How is that effected by boost? I apologize if this is a hardcore noob question, but if anyone knows anything about it, or has been down the same path, any information would be very helpful.
