block question...

Something is wrong with my gsl-se motor and i found a cheap way to fix it but i need to know if the gsl-se 13b block and the s4 block are the same?

What im planning on doing is just using the s4 block itself with all the s3 stuff on it including the front cover and oil pan.

If somebody could verify that the s3 gsl-se block and the s4 block are the same it would be greatly appreciated. Im buying the s4 motor/trans today and i want to make sure its not a waste of money.

they are not the same, but you can put the s3 manifolds on the s4 block and drop it in. the ONLY thing that doesnt work, is the air injection, the s4 is in a weird place.

oddly s3 to s5 does work 100%

i had an s4 motor in my old black gsl-se, and it ran really well, the s3 intakes like the larger s4 ports.

so its fine, just dont plan on passing smog, cause it wont

what do you mean by the air injection? Im guessing your talking about the air pump which is going to be removed along with the cat.

If the S4 has an EGR on the center iron, youll need to remove it and install a block off plate. No big deal if your not going to be smogging.
GSL-SE front cover and oilpan will bolt right up and allow for easy mounting.See Mazdatrix site about possible issues with the front cover o-ring sealing.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/oring.htm

The biggest concerns will be having the various intake ports match up between the block and manifold.
