Blinker problem...

I recently dismantled my intake manifold and now my blinkers will only work randomly. Sometimes I fire up the 7 and the blinkers work. Sometimes it won't. I have no clue what goes on in the electrical system but I have checked the fuses and every fuse is fine (there's only one box, under the steering column, right?). I am guessing there is a loose connection (but I hope not) but how did taking off the intake manifold affect my blinkers?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
FS

perhaps you bumped something. For example there is a very large conector under the wiper fluid tank that could be lose. I'd open the hood and start checking all the connections around the intake and around the carb. you may have accidently poped something off.

That connector under the wiper fluid tank controls the pump, right? The pump works and I can spray windshield fluid out just fine... I've checked for any other loose connectors and everything is fine...

OK--update:
Blinkers do not work at all anymore. I have no clue how to even start diagnosing the blinker system. Someone help!

Didja check your blinker fluid?

lol.. sorry man, I couldn't resist!

I'm not sure, but if you have a heynes, you should check the wiring section.. it's not too bad. I've been having trouble with my washer sprayers.. but that's a slightly different area so I don't know what to say.

Check every damn wire you can find around the area where you worked... Other than that I have no clue

The flasher unit might have gone out. I would try to test that if possible. I don't know if it can be tested though. You could always pick a new one up at an auto parts store. They aren't too expensive.

Where's that thing located?
I would normally whip out the haynes manual, but it's back at home...

I'm guessing the flasher unit is the blinker assembly itself

Not all 4 could possibly be broken at the same time... right? Isn't there some sort of electronic device hidden under the dash that controls the flashers that could be broken? my hazards won't even work...

There is a flasher relay under the dash. In the SA22Cs it is located just to the rear of the computer/abacus. Something like $12-14 at your local parts chain. In a SA22C, the replacement will need an alternate method of remounting it, as the unit is physically different from the OEM.

Personally, I would check the fusebox fuses for corrosion, and check turn signal bulbs. I had a bad bulb that kept my signals/hazards from working, which led to an unnecessary flasher relay replacement before I realized it.

I turned on the parking lights and found that both rear lights do not come on. Maybe they burned out--but, if they had burnt out, wouldn't my blinker blink really fast? They always operated at the normal rate (just working and then not working). Anyway, I'm not sure what it means when the back two lights don't work...
