Black Magic, Can I?
Hey i have had a Black Magic fan for a while now, i had it mounted behind the radiator where the stock fan was located. Can i move it infront of the radiator and mount it backwards? Or can i reverse the polarity on the fan so it can be mounted with the seal up against the radiator? Anyone mounted it infront of the radiator? I know i should have boughten a "pusher fan" instead of a "puller fan" but its too late now... Thanks for any help/advice!! - Rotary-Rex

I have a pusher wired backwards to work as a puller. Works fine. I found out after I mounted it that I could have flipped the blade over and then just wired it right, but I got the fan with hte car (laying in the back), so I didnt have any instructions or anything. Oh well, I plan on doing it right some day, lol. It works for now, thats all I care about .

so i can just flip the fan blade over and bolt it back on? The point is to get it infront of the radiator to give me a cleaner engine bay... I want to mount it so the seal is up against the radiator, i bleieve if the seal isnt right up against the radiator it will not cool properly.. Thanks T.J., you always helping me out!! thanks man

Well, dont tell anyone, but mine isint a true Black Magic fan, I just say it is...So with mine, I can flip the blade. I dont know about the black magic fans though. Youd probably find help in someone like Direct Freak or Mike-P-28 who actually uses one . My fan was a no name universal that came in the back of my car when I got it from the junk yard, and I just called it a Black Magic because I had nothing else to call it in my sig, lol.
Basically, I see no reason why you couldnt just run it backwards...Mine works fine like that, and it wasnt even meant to. Simply because they intended the user to just flip the blade to get the desired direction, not wire it backwards like I did, lol.

years back, when i installed my black magic fan, i turned it on manually, just to experience the airflow. with the hood open, i noticed nothing in the engine bay. however, when waslking around the front of the car to the other side, the draft through the airdam about knocked me down! seems as i had reversed the polarity... so, in answer to your question, i think its a fair bet to say you can just do the same to get a pusher fan.
ps just found this site tonight, and have been reading for a few hours now

I heard they were good fans. Is there a significant difference as far as cooling effect when the fan is pushing air across the radiator or pulling air in? What direction does the stock fan move air?

the stock fan is a puller fan, sucking air through the radiator and into the engine bay.. I went and switched the polarity on my fan, but when i went to mount it, it didnt fit like i want, so im going to keep it as a puller fan and mouint it in the stock location

Got Boost?
No, pulling is better than pushing, its less effecient to push through the radiator fins, then pull. Plus, pushers when off can block the radiator partially. It shouldn't make that big a difference though, especially if there are any extraordinary heat sources.

i agree with fatboy7, the fan can definately block airflow if mounted infront of the radiator, the fan will kick on more frequently if temp controlled.

Now about the fans, some fans allow you to wire it regular polarity and also in reverse polarity. You need to find out from that manufacturer if you are allowed to do that w/o causing damage to the fan

Alright, first let me say that I haven't looked at Black Magic fans, but I would think that a puller fan would be more efficient than a pusher fan, due to the funnelling effect of the fan shroud. How you gonna get that from the front?

The best set up is a puller fan from the inside of the engne bay,You already getting air pushed on it in the front from driving,I ripped my a/c **** out and nothing is in the way of the rad,
I have seen people put pusher fans INFRONT of the rad under the front radiator top cover,it makes it look like it has no fan its a clean install but I dont think it will work good.
