bigger brakes for the rear
bigger brakes for the rear
OK,
So after installing the Bwaits front big brake adapters (it works like a charm) I have 5 lug in the front, and 4 in the rear. so I started welding in the holes where the lug bolts are pressed so that I could redrill to 5 lug 114.3.
I thought to myself, why not try a FD, or FD rotor, and just respace the caliper? The FB/FC/FD all share the same pad set, I think the major difference is the rotor diameter, so other than the mounting points it should work.
Has anybody tried to mock up a FC or FD rear rotor to the FB axles?
If you have tried this before, please post any data you had from it. Getting 5 lugs in the back is easy enough, but I would really like to upgrade the brakes back there at the same time.

I have wondered the same thing. I would think the FC rotors would be relatively easy to adapt to SE axles and calipers. As you stated, the SE/FC/FD all share the same rear pads.
Adapting to the non-SE rear would be a little more involved, but I am sure that a person with decent fabrication skills could accomplish the task.

Yeah, I think maybe the FC might be easier, but I just happen to have a complete sets of rear rotors that are almost new for an FD sitting in my shop so being cheap, that awas my first inclination.
I though about mounting the calipers, from an FC or FD but I am not sure if there is any difference performance wise....

You should learn to do a search of the forum
Just do "Advanced Search" and look for 2nd gen rear brakes. My description is given in post number 13 of this thread:
