big brakes on 1G
So i am going to start driving my 1979 again and I was wondering if there was a brake upgrade that I can do for the front of this vehicle.
or the rear for that matter
is there a stock setup that is larger that will swap over to this vehicle.

Well that depends, the TT2 brake rotors are 5 lug but if you re drill them to 4X114 and get
2nd gen 4 lug hubs you will be fine

What are the biggest brakes we can go to? Can we go to a 3rd gen?
I've seen big brake upgrade kit which used readily available rotars that bolt to the hub. I think they said they where nascar style and they claimed that they were easy to get and cheaper. But now I can't find the sight.

FB+FC=F-ME
The easiest brake upgrade would be 1st gen parts.
The 79 has wedge caliper front disc brakes and drum rear brakes,so anything is an improvement.
81-83 GSL 4 wheel discs would be a bolt on affair.The only catch is you would have to swap the entire rear axle to get the rear discs.
84-85 GSL 4 wheel discs would also be a bolt on plus you would have to swap the front spindles/struts.This would also be an upgrade since the 84-85 cars have bigger wheel bearings and the later style struts.The brakes themselves are the same as the 81-83 GSL.
84-85 GSL-SE has the biggest disc brakes of all 1st gens.Would require the same amount of work to swap as the 84-85 GSL(relatively easy) but would also require new wheels since the SE has bigger discs and a different,better lug pattern.
There are several companies making 2nd gen brake conversion kits to install TII sized rotors and caliper on the 1st gen.Many, if not all require the 84-85 bigger spindles and bearings.
11"-12" rotors and 4 pot calipers are extremely capable on a light 1st gen and full usage can only be realized by upgrading to wider,stickier tires,to take advantage on the big brake's resistance to fade.For the average streetcar,the GSL-SE brakes are all you need.
For all-out,race capable brakes in the 13"-14" range,you can shell out for an FC upgrade kit to install on an FB that already has a stock FC brake upgrade.These kits are pretty common and run upwards of $1200-$1500.
