Big Bad Belt Problem

ok heres the deal,

just picked up a new rx,
its an 84 gsl

and crazy enough it has power steering???

got me,
anyway the belt popped off a couple times then it just ate it up?

and i changed my water pump and since then the car ate the alt belt as well.

can you over tighten these belts?
or where they not tight enough?

any ideas would be great
thanks

Sounds like mis-aligned.

Make sure your pulley isn't dented. That will do it.

checked that,
no dents

could it be from over tightening them?

Overtighten = bad... Extra friction and wear

Maybe just ditch the powersteering unit? Since it's not stock (were there any stock 1st gen 7s with power steering?), it might be pulling belts to one side instead of the stock balance...

Since it's chewing both the belts up the problem must lie with the main pulley.

oh no my friend it is stock,
unless a total mad man put it on,
because the whole setup on the driver side of the engine is diferent if you have power steering,
like the a/c for example,

just compair you will see.

and yes to your second question as well,
all 13b's came stock with power steering,

the only thing i can think is that it was just an expensive option for the 12a that most people just decided not to get

oh man you would have to see this thing,
trust me out of the 50 times that i have already worked on this thing i would love to just rip all that **** off.,

but its just too damn cherry

fully loaded with mint leather interior,
gsl with the rare power steering option,

i just cant do it,

i have to do an exhaust job and i might replace it all with shitty expensive stock components,
yes its that nice
well it needs a paint job

i tore down the black one,
im gonna build a 13b turbo project 1st gen
not like mikes though,
just something quick,
maybe 13 sec 1/4 mile runner

im gonna put up picks when i get my hands on a digi cam

There are two kinds of Power Steering. Some were factory installed, some where dealer installed. They both work the same, but the pulleys and locations are different.

BTW, Power steering is NOT standard on GSL-SE's. It is an option just like leather was.
