I have an 85 GSL-SE with the factory 14's. I believe they are the same width as the LE rims. I am running Firestone Indy 500's in 215/60-14. The rims are narrower than what the manufacturers recommend for 215/60-14's, but I haven't had any problems, even autocrossing the car. I am running 215/60-14 BFGoodrich Drag Radials in the same 215/60-14 size on a spare pair of SE rims I have and they seem to work well at the strip with my S4 TII engine and 5k RPM launches. I like the look of the 215/60's and the way the bulge a little on the rim. The size is a little harder to find than 205/60, but the look and added contact patch is worth in my book.

Good luck. The 215 are as wide as you will get with 5.5" rims

I just ordered the same drag radials(215/60/14) for my 14in phone dials. I hope they hook up as good as they say.

Thanks, Ed

I recommend the Falken Azenis RT-615 195/60/14, they are great for aggressive street driving, auto-x, and track days.

My local tire guy 2 blocks away says he'll meet the Tirerack price. I've got Dunlop 205/60 on my SE but they're very slippery even on dry pavement, now, and I usually tire for good grip on wet pavement, which usually ends up being Pirelli.

I like a large "footprint" on my car for handling/performance. I had a set of 225/60/14 Goodyear GTII tires on my stock GSL-SE rims for ten years. Never encountered any driving/handling problems in the ten years I ran them (that's how long it took to wear them out.) Plenty of clearance in the rear and no fender rub in front unless I hit a huge pothole by accident. Some inside tire rub on front sway bar (i'ts aftermarket so it's larger than stock bar) when turning wheel lock-to-lock. But the manual steering on SE's have a wide turning radius to begin with. When they needed to be replaced I switched to a set of Yokohama AVS ES100's (205/60/14) and and aftermarket rims. I like the tires. Good grip (even in rain) and quiet too.
