AB best "stock" intake emmisions removed

Which is the best intake to run after removing smog controls? I will be running a Sterling Nikki. The one thing I noticed on my SA is the intake manifold does not cover the center rectangular port. What is this rectangular port for?
Cheers!

Your best bet is an early 79 manifold. They are reported to flow better than the later ones.

I have the manifold from my 79. But the thermal reactor (exhaust manifold) covers this rectangular port below the intake, which I believe is simply EGR. But when I go to a header with the 79 intake this port is uncovered. With an FB intake this port is covered. I am not sure how I can cover this port with my 79 intake.
