Best muffler for custom exhaust and size.

I'm going to have a custom exhaust (header back) exhaust put on my stock 12a as the first part of trying to get some more power out of it. what would you guys suggest for size and muffler. im in south dakota so its pretty cheap around here and no emissions to worry about, i plan in the soon futher to do a holly car setup alone with a streetport this next winter. any suggestions?

2.25" exhaust tubing, preferably thick pipe from Racing Beat.

Your muffler options are:
Magnaflow
Borla
Racingbeat
Rotaflow (spelled right?)

Those are known to withstand the heat of the rotary engine. Normally, 2" would do but since you have a SP in your future a 2.25 couldn't hurt. Normally one would also run a presilencer, because Header with piping into any of the above mufflers only is realllly loud.

Here is a Pure Borla set-up on my car. RB header, Borla ProXS presilencer, and Mazdaspeed Protege muffler:

Crappy camera, apparently loud noises doesn't pick up well.

3" is good on a Turboed 13b.... not for a stockport/SP 12a.

You can go with something different. Flowmaster Hushpower II like I did.

It's different and can handle the heat of the 7. These are sanctioned for the diesel power truck pulls (DHRA approved). So it can definitely handle the heat. I need to update my sig picture to show the new exhaust.

Hushpower II

The Hushpower II incorporates "Jet Laminar technology" together with Flowmaster’s sound chamber designs to give a sweet rumble reminiscent to that mellow 1950's tone in a very compact and presentable case. Constructed in T304 Stainless Steel case that can be highly polished for that show look, or available in a high temp. grey painted T409 Stainless Steel case, both with full stainless steel internals to last for years and years.

Take a look (click on photos to see larger version):

Talking

Either one of these is a great choice.
1. Racing Beat '81-'83 PowerPulse(Primaflow) rear....allows for long dual primary system for max power.
2. Rotaflo from Rotaflo.com.au: Excellent muffling with great looks. Needs custom piping .
