Best hopes for 1/4 with an NA build?
Best hopes for 1/4 with an NA build?
I have an 84 with a street port 13b, GSL-SE drive train, 195 fuel pump, Holley carb, lightened flywheel, 6 puck clutch, Racebeat headers and full exhaust, with lowering springs and shocks.
Now I am trying to figure out what I might actually achieve with it. Everyone keeps telling me I need to go with boost, but is it possible to get 13's off an NA 13b build? Right now I can get high 14's, but I'm running really rich, and waiting to get some dyno time in. Just want to know if it will be worth it.

With a perfect tune and the right sized porting, high 13s should be achievable.
I keep hearing stories about "Yeah, back when I used to have an FB, it went 13.8", etc., but I have yet to see actual proof.
If you are looking to go "fast", though, you are going to need some type of forced induction...

That's kind of what I thought. I pulled a 15 flat on bald street tires, and high 14's on street tires with a little tred. Logically I should be able get get another second with slicks and better tuning and a perfect run.
What do you have done? Not only motor, but how much in the way of weight reduction?
If that motor is N/A, it's got to be on the far side of "streetable." Not that the original thread starter said that it had to be streetable, but, why else would you build an N/A? Heh.
I thought you were turbo, Chef?

How about a full bridge ported 12a? Hmmm Who cares unless you are going to go competitive on people's asses. I say have fun with it no matter what the "quarter" reads. Aside from that, you may do a high 13 second pass, but how many cars can hang with you on the corners? (assuming that there is suspension work done as well)
With an average sized street-port you should be able to get 14.5 second runs. Your engine will only be putting out about 180hp flywheel in good tune.
Go turbo for streetability if you have good compression. If you are only interested in noise with performance, and no emission tests - rebuild and go bridgeport but start saving for your gas bill.

I'll take that car on with mine once she's finished, all four corners with coilovers, full custom 5 link rear end, considering upper and lower A arms on front. Now if you mean keeping stock mounting points I do agree.
The street port on my motor is as aggressive as Pineapple Racing here in Oregon would do. It was actually done to the motor before I bought it, and have been trying to get it enough fuel to actually use the power.
Right now I'm not getting traction at all, so I'm kind of waiting on slicks and tuning before trying again.
