Best Dual Pulley Ever Gain 50hp
Whats the best dual pully? i'm debating between HIGGYS ROTOR SHAPED ONE, MAZDARACING'S UNDERDRIVE PULLY that supposedly ads 14hp, OR mazdatrix.
Anyone suggestions what have you used????

I highly doubt the 14hp. Its more like 5-10hp. I can't feel the difference, which is well with in the realm of imaginary hp gains. There is a horsepower gain, but so low its not main reason to get a underdrive pulley on a rotary you intend to push hard.(6000+rpm often)
The main reason to get one is to reduce rpm on the water pump and alternator, and a side-effect is slightly faster reving. The water pump tends to cavitate at the upper end of the rpm range in stock form, and underdrive pulley will eliminate that issue and make the pump last longer. You shouldn't have any cooling issues or voltage problems at low rpm if everything is in working order. Some people claim to have problems at idle with higher temps and lower voltage, but I don't.

Yeah same here. I mean if it dosen't do that much and I'm not racing. Just good ol STREET HI PERFORMANCE. I'd rather go with higgys....It looks so cool. WOW ! ! !

So is there any advantage in getting the underdrive or racing beat's pulley opposed to higgys. maybe theres a weight difference that will make a dramatic difference???

I never heard of higgy's. I know the RB one is aluminum, which is what i have-a single sheeve. I don't have any slipping issues a lot of people complain about. Just take some sand paper to the pulleys so they grip good and have a new belt with the v-teeth, they hold just fine for me so far.

If you want to go the inexpensive route, don't start bolting Chrysler parts into your car. This one is available for under $20...

Well, the rest of my engine bay is boring looking and dull, if I went and got a shiny red pulley, it would look out of place =P
I'd be compelled to shine everything, and the gold one looks fine to meee ; )
I guess if my car was a little prettier under the hood I'd go for Higgi's though

At first I thought the thread was about main pulleys..... you know the lower one thats bigger! Then there is all this talk about alternator pulleys.... now why the **** would you want to slow the alternator? I havent found a reason for that yet........
And this wont free up hidden hp, only extra wieght!
The main pull would free up, since its directly on the drive line when the clutch is engaged...... like adding a light fly wheel, or lighter rims/tires, same effect....
Anyways, what was this originally about? alternator or main pulleys?!?!

About underdriving the alternator its also something with the waterpump. They explain it on www.mazdaracing.com

Not necessarily.
It depends on the drive ratio, but given the same diameters, it will take more power to turn two belts vs. one due to the increased friction. Look at what people run on race cars, mostly single belts that are narrower than stock. Just a little something to think about.

yes and no. Dual belts will take a bit more power to turn than a single belt, but a single belt can slip far easier and allow your waterpump to stop pumping, thereby frying your engine.

Well i really have no choice then i will be removing my air pump. So i need to go dual pulley and belts. Anyone know of the other way and just hooking up a belt to I think the AC pulley or somehting like that.

Yes, two belts give an added measure of security in case one breaks, and they make more contact with the water pump pulley. That does not change the fact that it takes more power (albeit slight) to drive them, and since this thread was about belts and horsepower, I figured I'd address that issue specifically. FWIW, I've run a single belt for many years and never had a problem. I use quality belts made by Gates, or Mazda factory belts made by Mitsuboshi and keep them tight.
The biggest mechanical advantage is gained by using a lightweight, smaller diameter main pulley and a single narrow belt, though.
