Best Carb?

I have a 79' and I decided to replace the engine, tranny, and carb. I decided in using a 13b from a 91' Rx7 and a Turbo II tranny. I wanted to keep it as a carburetor instead of fuel injected. So I wanted to know what carb you would perfer for high performance and the possibility of it still passing smog. I've already seen the Holley Carb on Racingbeat.com but wanted to know if there was a better choice. If not then I guess I'll just have to purchase the Holley. Any replies would help a lot. Thanks.

well its a hard one, i seem to beleive a weber is better, but if you get upgraded injectors in the holly, they do good too. i would go with a 45 dcoe weber, thats what im running, does good, gives you take off when you need it. dunno if it passes smog though.

I wouldn't bet the bank on passing smog. It's basically impossible on the kind of swap you're planning.

Carb

I would go with the Holl b/c a dcoe is only good if you going to wide open
throttle. I hated my dcoe it made mine sound like a rice burner anyway

i think rx7kid meant... "jets" in the holley either way... the holley kit will make the power and have good streetability. a weber will do the same but doesn't cruise as smooth.

It'll never work. Use the 91 as a donor and swap everything over and splice the engine wire harness into the 1st gen. Thats the only way to pass smog and be legal. Check out Steve84GSTII 's car. Hes in Ca and did that, but with a TII engine. He passes smog, is legal for Ca, and has a sweet ride. Probably the best done all around 1st gen in existence.

Wouldn't a 2 barrel have a higher peak horsepower, but a much steeper power band? I thought the point of a 4 barrel was to smooth out the horsepower and give you a wider power band while sacrificing a little bit of the top end HP.

or could do what seems to be a VERY rare conversion on here - and use 2 HIF44 carbs. Butterflys can be joined by way of a tube with a clamp either end, and you only really need to use the choke on one of them to get it started

apparently, on a stock 12a, they give better torque AND mpg

dellorto is the way to go but use a different manifold than the racingbeat. i think a twin cites manifold was one that i saw that is a straight manifold no curves.

you can get your parts for dellorto here, http://www.racecar.co.uk/dellorto/
