The white stitching looks good with the black and with the silver, so I think I'll be getting one of those shift boots. They are custom fits aren't they? No hole punching or anything?

My wife had a good idea to secure the shift boot (I have the one from Manntis' site). You can buy snap-buttons at any arts & crafts store. Super glue one side to the console cover, one to the underside of the boot. That way you can remove the boot easily to clean the muck out. I currently have velcro holding it down, but the glue is loosing its tack over time. My wife will be handling this mod for me

The one from Rotorhead.ca is the same shift boot as the ones on Ebay made by Btelotte I think.
That is a great idea, and to think, I paid for a new shifter surround to get some pegs on the underside...

So now I have the pegs that the holes slide over, but I have no clips to hold them on, that'll be a easy fix though.

I can post some tonight, but hell- You're gonna see it soon enough! .

It's an 85GSL with 75,000 original miles, V9 metalic grey paint, BBS black mesh 15x7 rims, rear spolier and pimp red interior. The interior is in about 95% original shape. No rips or tears but some minor wear on the drivers seat. No other interior mods (other than the shifter boot). A few tiny dings and 2 small dents (barely noticeable) that may be fixed prior to Rotorfest.
Friday evening I'm putting on a front air dam ( IMSA type) and rigging the driving lights. My friend (owns a bodyshop) will be coming along to Rotorfest too. He is a hell of a body man.

Currently powered with a stock 12A, RB dual exhaust (header to tips) and a Sterling modded Nikki. Nothing else done under the hood.

snap button = brilliant.

I just used 4 little drops of super glue and figured I'd rip it off when it needs to be cleaned. so I guess after I do that I'll do the whole snap button thing.

Just a reminder- My wife has yet to do it. We are assuming it will work ok. I'll see if she can try to do it tonight, then I'll post up a pic or two. Oh by the way- I meant to say that one side of the snap is on the underside of the console and the other on the boot (you get the idea).

(However- I can honestly say that when my wife usually figures out a way to fix something like this, 9 times out of 10 it works better than expected.)

I don't see how it could possibly NOT work unless you royally mess up lining it up, but that's not too hard either, cause you can put the snapped snaps on the boot, then put a dab of super glue on the snaps one by one and then push it up against the console part (pop it out first, it will make it tons easier) and presto, one easily cleanable snappable shifter boot.

i still think it's brilliant, and am very impressed. I thought for quite a few hours of the best way to do it, and snaps never even crossed my mind.

Yeah- I was the same way. I sat at the kitchen table with the boot and console, cutting velcro strips. I was mumbling "this ain't gonna work for long..."

My wife comes over and looks at it and says "Why use velcro?"
Me- "So I can take it on/off if I need to. Don't want to glue it permanently"
Wife-"Why not glue snaps on, here and here?"
Me-"Uhh- yeah. Here. You do it."

ha ha, i've had a similar conversation with my girlfriend:

Me-"my bathroom is so nasty, I don't even wanna go in there"
Her-"so clean it"
Me-"I can't, cause I'm not going in there"
Her-"ok, then I'll do it"
Me-"ok"

*definitely a keeper*

oh, and she really did clean my bathroom... twice.

Hold the presses...

Last night I tried using super glue on the velcro strips attached to the vinyl boot side. I scuffed the vinyl with an emery board first. It holds like a CHARM!

The velcro on the center console is holding its' own with the glue used on the velcro itself (I guess the plastic makes a better bond).

I would definately go this route over the snaps. What I did was cut velcro strips about 1/4 inch in width and placed all around the underside of the shift boot opening on the console. Attach the other side to the boot (using the super glue). You get a tight seal with no gaps around the boot. You can still remove the boot to clean by peeling the velcro apart carefully.

Definately the way to go.
