Bang for MY buck
ok, im hopefully getting a 79 & 80 rx7s the weekend after next, as it stands it wont cost me anything to get the 79 running as i will have the 80 as a parts car, after paying the hole $500 for the cars, I will have aproximately $1000 to spend on anything and everything for these cars. Both cars have good engines, and pretty much every thing else is fine, the 80 was hit in the passenger side and the 79 is using the wireing harness from the 80, as far as I know thats the only problem, they also come with a blown engine from an 83 gsl. The extent of what i can think of to do to them at the moment is exaust for the 79 since it already has a RB header, then savin up some cash and getting the 80 engine ported and turbo it. I just felt like talking and, I was wondering what I need to do before I get the engine ported, I know it only costs like $100 or $200 for a port but Ive heard people say you should have the engine rebuildt, and from pinapple racing ( the only site I have found with prices) that costs like 2g's, I know ive heard you can rebuild an engine yourself but would this be a good Idea without using a new core.
ok I think Im done for now, Im just scyked and cant wait to get these cars.
thanks for any input anyone has

Tear apart a perfectly running engine?
Why don't you just make it sound really simple.
20B Swap
Big Turbo
Aftermarket ECU.
See, just three lines too. Must be a weekend job.

Airflow is my life
It depends on your skills. Do you have experience and mechanical ability? Tools? Port templates can be bought cheap. Doing all this work isint expensive for a DIY kinda guy. Hope thats helpful.

Carl hit it on the head there. If you are willing AND able to do all the work, porting a rotary engine is only as expensive as the seal kit that you should probably throw into the engine once you take it apart.
If you're looking for power, the first thing you should do is sort out the exhaust. If you want a quality exhaust that is marginally louder than stock, but sounds much better, with proven power gains, get the Racing Beat system. If you don't want to shell out 600 bucks for a full exhaust system, you can buy the headers and make your own, but the noise level can be excessive, and typical mufflers don't stand up well to rotary engine exhaust.
