Ball joints at Black Dragon!

I was looking around online at the Black Dragon site and noticed they sell ball joints for our cars. I know I probably need them but my control arms are good so I haven't replaced them yet and this looks like the way to go. I know some folks have replaced the ball joints and recommended a tac weld to make sure they stay in. I wonder if these require that same treatment as well?

i would do it just to be safe. the old ones are pressed out and the new ones pressed in. a tack weld or two would ensure reliablity against coming loose. the tack could then be eaisaly ground off for replacement should the need occur.

Here's a discussion about ball joints:

I did not tack mine. I now have over 2000 miles on them with no signs of loosening.

Yeah, I've changed ball joints before and never had to tack em'.

I'll decide when I finally replace them, I have other issues to deal with for now; clutch, MC, ujoints.

Everything always seems to breaks right after you start using the car in the spring and you end up working on it during the summer just to put it away in the fall. Its all fun tho.

i just did my ball joints. had my dad order them from his shop and i just pressed them in. no tac welding required although i guess if you are really worried about it you could tac them. usually ive found that they won't slip out again if you make sure that they are straight when you press the old ones out and again when you put the new ones in. BTW since we are talking about front end stuff anyone know where i can get some poly bushings for my front swaybar? its the upgraded 1 1/8 inch diameter bar but i can't find anyone that will sell the bushings unless you spend hella and get their sway bar package

I have a trashed passenger control arm (144K miles and the ball joints were replaced at 75K) that were not welded in. Thankfully, the balljoint did have the retaining clip.

Based on this, I would either tack weld or go with new arms/joints, but certainly would get the balljoints that have the retaining clip!
