Bad Tach? Not ignitor?

Bad Tach? Not ignitor?
Ok, have had this problem since I got the car, hasn't bothered me enough to make it a priority until now.
My tachometer doesn't work. There's a "click-click-click" behind the dash, and the only thing the tachometer DOES do is tap tap tap with it.
I assumed then I have 1 good ignitor (leading) and 1 bad ignitor (trailing). So, I got a couple replacements.
First one didn't work. Or at least, I assumed so, because I was replacing the trailing ignitor. Then I realized it's quicker to just replace the leading ignitor, and see if the car starts.
So I put the "good" ignitor in the trailing spot, and the "new" ignitor in the leading spot. Car wouldn't turn over. Ok, so 1 bad ignitor out of 4.
I put another "new" ignitor in the leading spot, car started up like before. Doesn't sound any different than it did when I had 1 "bad" ignitor in the trailing spot.
I assume now I have 2 good ignitors on the car.
But the tach still isn't working. So I assume then, my next step is to remove the panel, and see if the connection is bad? A bit much, I might need to consider an aftermarket one, as I don't consider myself mechanically inclined enough yet to remove and replace the dash without screwing something else up even worse.

1st gen instrument clusters are pretty easy to pull. A couple screws above the cluster on the surround, and I think two on the bottom. Then just a few screws around the cluster behind the surround.

bstrange is right. The cluster is easy to remove. Also make sure to remove the speedo cable from the back of it first by reach up under the dash. You may have to remove that bottom vent to make it a little easier. Once all screws and speedo cable are pulled, pull the cluster forward. There are three wire harnesses, two large and one small, connected to the back, just pop them off. The clusters are modular so just pull what you need to replace.
