Bad oil seals?

Just bought a 79 rx7 and i believe the oil seals are bad. It smokes alot when it is cold during the choking cycle. Its a thick silver white smoke. but when the choke releases the smoke goes away. And in my rat nest there is remenents of oil inside. Not enough to get on the filter but its greasy in there. So i m assuming this is a sign of a bad oil seal. And if so who has the best prices on getting another motor? Thank you for all your help.

Joe

What does the smoke smell like? If it smells sweet, then it's probably burning coolant and if it smells like Grandma's underpants then it's probably oil.

Hmm i m not sure. So if its sweet it a bad coolant seal? And if it smells like *** then its an oil seal? Whats worse i know i have a bad o ring in my second gen but it wasn't so bad just that dam annoying buzzer telling me i have air in the system and to let it out.

Well, if you want to disable single parts or the whole buzzer system on your 1st gen, you've found your man. I've been working a long time getting my buzzer/warning system to work again, so ask away if you need to.

If the exhaust has a sweet smell then it's burning coolant. That doesn't necessarily mean a blown seal. It may just be the o-rings in the intake manifold.

Well haven't had the buzzer in the 1st gen yet. My 2nd gen has a bad o ring from the previous owner probly overheating her. If only i had known my 1st gen would be fast now. My 2nd gen just asks for more money more money like a child. Anyhow i just need to get a really good suspension for the 1st gen for now. I ll worry about the motor after.
