Bad day for my 1st gen
For a quick story, I rewired my sub to my unused side terminal on my battery. It occured to me that there was an exposed positive bolt on the battery, but I didnt think it would slide that much. Well, later that day it did and it made a hell of a lot of smoke smelling like burnt plastic, and of course I had my fan on so it blew the smoke all inside the cab too, smells great. It still runs but the "stop lamp" light flickers on now and seems to flicker with bumps in the road. Plus, every time you turn on anything that draws power (head lights, brake lights, fan, etc.) you can see affect everything else for a little bit. Lights dim, my stereo turns off and on again. When I get some daylight Im gonna see how bad the battery fried from being shorted like that. I always thought it would blow up being shorted for that long. It even vaporized the small chunk of metal it hit. Talk about scary, I damn near had to change my drawers.
One other wierd thing. I cant pull the choke now, its stuck. This must be coincidental, since that wouldnt be affected by the electrical system and I kinda doubt all those fumes being sucked through the engine really were enough to affect it. Any quick, easy suggestions for this?

Choke may need replaced. I have an extra one if interested. I am thinking a battery replacement along with most of the main power wires also. The real bad thing about the battery short is that the entire electrical system took a hit when it happened. I would check for burned wires throughout the entire car.

Ouch... hmm. My bonnet hinge bracket I found was arcing to my battery positive terminal... it has probably weakened some areas of my cars electrical system... I'll needa check over everything one of these days... I just always thought it was normal that turning one thing on would mean the lights dim or whatever...

Same thing happened to my car with the choke. I accidentally shorted something and my choke cable fused to the outer casing. You need a new choke cable and ****.

I just went out to check now that I have some light. Most of the harness still seems like its in great shape. That choke cable.... Why the hell would it pump that much power through the cable? Wish I had a better camera. There melted plastic all over that cable. Oh well, looks like I have something to do this weekend. Still dont understand why it would fry that cable, while the others look fine. This bring up another question. Why doesnt the ground cable have a high amp fuse on it? Surely theres a level between what the car will need for power and what will cook a choke cable.
