Bacv Giving Me Problems. Can I Block It Off?

The bypass air control valve on my 85 GSL-SE has been giving me problems lately causing my car to "surge" and syncopation at idle.
My question is can I block this off and make a plate simaler to the acv block off plates?

Did you try taking it off and cleaning the plunger. Are the electrical connections clean and connected?

Before you start assuming that you are going in the right direction with your diagnosis. Go to the FAQ and find the question pertaining to the Se's idles issues and start reviewing the attached links.

A few members in the 2nd gen section have had success blocking of the bacv, more have not. I have a friend with a TII who has done this successfully and even being a trained Ford line mechanic, he still has no idea why his works and so many others didn't

Take the bacv off and clean it with brake cleaner. Cycle it on and off by applying 12v to it, reinstall and see it it improves. The cycling/surging may be related to other issues, I'm sure doc will pop in and offer more suggestions.

Oops, our dear doc beat me to it. He's on top of things as usual.

ok that didnt make sense. But before i blocked it off id do this.
(assumign its stock setup)
also assuming that you donw already know all this, you probably already do

1) chech that all connections are in propper.
check that tps is adjusted. Check the bypass air supply valve selenoid. Check the vent air selienoid.

2) Clean out the bac valve with carb cleaner and then lube it with wd40. Blow on it through the vacuum hole and check that the plunger works.

also check that the gaskets are good, cause a leaking gasket will make the ecu hunt up and down for the an idle to copensate for the air leak, this will casue the idle oscillation.

go here: http://www.nellump.net/peri/epi/firs...gslseIdle.html

3) then if this fails ask someone else and then maybe block it off but i dont think that that would work, but i might be wrong

Cool Thanks guys. YES I have done the searching in the archives and looked in the FAQ section and trust me I have that page on GSL-SE rough idle at the top of my fav. list. That is how I was able to pin piont it out. I have cleaned it and I am in the process of finding a new one b-4 I try to block it off. I am going to the swap meet at Pineapple racing tomarrow maybe someone has one there.
Thanks again guys.

I completely removed mine, ground off the bung, welded it shut, drove it for years with no ill effects. Of course I had no A/C or PS and stripped all emissions also.
I did just take a piece of gasket material an blocked it off before permanently removing it.

Yah it was me Gavin hehe
