My car sometimes backfires on startup. Loud like a shotgun. Is this caused by an intake or exhaust leak? I'm afraid to start my car when there are people behind me. LOL! It was cool at first but its getting annoying.

I'm running stock timing. This is on my blowthrough set up with 2 MSD's(no more ingniters).

thats common if you're using MSD igntion boxes. Not always but once in awhile my cars does the same thing.

 

Yeah it freaks people out! Bang and I see a puff of black smoke from the rear view mirror. Mel, any cure to this?

I havent done anything to mine except my timing is set at full advance. But on your blow-thru set up, ask Rob for his recommendation.
