autox wheels/tires
im lookin to get some new race wheels for my 84 gsl-se. the plan is to get 13x8 diamonds (unless you know of cheaper ones out there). i thought i measured the stock backspacing to be 5in. would it be wise to get the diamonds with a 5in backspacing also, seeing that i have rb springs in so the car is a bit lower. i dont want it rubbing on the outside, but im afraid that it may rub the strut/spring with a 5in backspace.
could i just get them with 5in and then get spacers if i need them. (where could i get spacers?)
last thing, is the bolt pattern 4x4? or did i measure wrong
has anyone used the hoosier bias-ply autocrosser 225/45-13? i read that those work best on 1st gen? what do you think?
thanks

Most 13" wheels do not fit over GSL-SE brakes, but SOME do - you need to call them/visit their site and take measurements.
http://www.wankel.net/registry/1st/tschuh.html He apparently is using the 13x8 Diamonds on his -SE, so it's possible.
http://www.dfw-rx7.com/reviews/kumho/ is where I got that link from... NICE
A GSL-SE should have a 4 on 4.5" bolt circle. (12A cars have 4x110mm)

Just for your info... I'm running 13x8 diamonds on my GSL-SE. I have yet to get to run a race on them, but I've tested out all the fitment. Here is the lowdown.
I'm running 13x8, 4x4.5" bolt pattern with 4" backspace. They fit and clear everything fine, but they do stick out of the sides a fair amount. I think any 8" wide wheel will have to though.
Mine fit over the dust cover in the back with only about a quater inch to spare. Tim Schuh, (the other guy running them posted earlier) says he had to bend the crap out of his dust shield to get them to fit, so there may be a difference, but no major problems.
Here is a link to our thread conversation a while back that has all the info you should need....

Just out of curiosity, what model rims are you using? IIRC they make 2 or 3 different models in that size/bolt pattern, and I think a choice of spun or rolled. (That might only be for 6" or 7" widths)

I'm running their mini-stock wheels. They have a spun shell, as per their web page... The only offerings for a rolled shell are on 5 1/2and 7" widths for 13"), but they are heavier. They can make just about any specs you want if you really want them to...
Really nice people too..

IF you order a set of wheels from them, you should order their lugnuts too.. I found them damn near impossible to locate. 12mm x1.5 is what you need, with the 45deg taper.
Hoosiers are the best, but they are also the most expensive, and last half as long as others.. Unless you really HAVE to win, and are close enough where it makes a difference, I'd go with the Kuhmos instead.
Just my .02..
