Attention Carburator experts, please offer your advice...
As I posted earlier, I took the plunge and rebuilt my carb on the '79. Everything seemed to go ok, and we got the carb off and on the car in about three hours. Start her up, and it seemed to idle allright, but any throttle caused very rough running and afterburn galore. I dissassembled the carb and rechecked the floats.
I broke one. Off to the boneyard to grab an old carb. Once I got the old carb, I pulled the floats out and put them in my carb. Set the floats to spec and put the carb back together again.
The car runs better, but there is still very rough running and no power past 3500. Finally, I gave up tonight and started cleaning up my mess. I heard a clinking in my solvent jar, so I turned it upside down.
A small checkball fell out.
My question is two parts. Firstly, where does this checkball go? Secondly, are there more of them?
I assume that the lack of checkball would be the source of my poor running, but I have no clue where it came from.
Any and all help is appreciated.

I was looking at the manual, and the only place I could see it coming from is from underneath the inlet check valve seat. Maybe it's the weight? Sorry I couldn't help more.

There are two check ***** and two weights. One's for the accelerator pump nozzle and the other one's for the accelerator pump inlet. They're different sizes so they need to go in the correct places. What they basically do is keep the accelerator pump circuit primed so you definately need it in there.

Arrg!
I put the check ball back into the Accelerator pump outlet, and put the carb back together, hoping against hope that the problem would be solved.
Nope. My car still begins to burble really hard past 2k and doesn't have any power. If I let off the gas, it afterburns hard, indicating a very rich condition. At least that's what I think is going on. I don't really have the faintest idea anymore.
What could I have done during rebuild that would make my car run so poorly? I've checked and rechecked the floats, I've got all the weights and check ***** in their proper places, and all the jets are in their respective places. At least I think they are. Can you mix up the jets, or do they only fit one way?
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, just to ressurrect this thread, I'd though I'd post that the car is fixed. Turns out there were some jets swapped in the float bowls, so that both secondary jets were in one bowl and both primary jets were in the other.
That doesn't work so well.
Now that I've swapped those, the car runs good.
