Atkins Rotary 13B Rebuild Vid for the 12A

I havnt seen the rebuild vid, can I use that vid to help me rebuild my 12A?
Are there any differences in rebuild procedure? Tolerances and Clearances? and how indepth is the vid?(considering buying it) is it worth the cash?

You can use the 13b as a reference almost everything is the same, if I was you, I would also consider the DIY13b-re video. Its a 4 dvd set and goes over each step of rebuilding a motor, worth the money IMO althought it is about $100.

Does the atkins rotary go over everything? step by step? and do you have to be a master mechanic to understand it or can anybody use it?
most people that rebuild rotarys have an good understanding about mechanics. This would not only be the first engine ive ever rebuilt, but the first ive ever pulled out and took apart.

Well, I just got the DIY-RE 13B videos, and I gotta say for a young guy like me with a bit of technical knowledge that a video like this definately instills confidence. When I finally save enough money to do the build Im sure ill be ready. I did an engine core swap a year or so back, which was actually prety easy. It was my first ever removal of a rotary engine, and with a little help, I had the blown engine out and another one in, ready to start in just a day. The bulk of the work is going to be rebuilding the engine itself, so if your comfortable there, taking the engine out and putting it back in will be easy, just label everything and use the right tools. Just be ambitious, and go buy a video.

I used the Rotary Aviation rebuild video when I did my 1st 12a, along with the FSM and Haynes manual. My shop now has a permanent place for a tv,vcr and the computer out there is networked and online.

Either rebuild vid will give you all of the basics. There are some variations between the12a's and 86+ 13b's, (o-ring between front cover/iron and thermal oil pellet), but assembly is basically the same. Use an FSM, year appropriate for your engine, for specs.

No rocket science is required to rebuild a rotary.
The vidoes makes it much eaiser the first time, especially if your not up to date on all the tricks and time savers involved with placing seals, stacking housings, ect.
What you will need is patience,a good clean organized work space, and a decent set of measuring tools.Rotaries are mechanically very simple. But their shape and internal motion requires that many, many tolerances be met with considerable accuracy. Thats the rotaries rebuilding caveat,.........precision.
