ATF question

ATF question

I constantly see posts about using ATF to get an otherwize seized engine turning again.

My question is this: Since ATF is basically 5/30 with dye added, why use ATF instead of the regular 5/30 engine oil for this trick?

it also has a few detergents and additive in it to "clean" the moving parts and keep the deposits down

I would use mmo whereas I have tested both atf and mmo on equally carboned rotors to get em clean for rebuild and the atf really didnt do anything but the mmo all I had to do is wipe off the sludge with very little effort involved

but for your use the oil would work to give the engine that little bit of compression it needs to get started

mmo is starting to look like a far better alternative to atf. so i'd have to agree with damon. check my net research on mmo posted somewhere down the ladder in here.
