Arghh....it went yesterday..
oh no, I have a 1979 12a bridgeport and its stopped working, It was going. Its got no WOF or REG yet cos its my project so I cant drive it anywhere, but It gets started in the garage, Its slowly been gettin worse and worse, then it wouldnt idle and ran shitty with a funny bang bang bang sound, almost like 1 rotor then It wouldnt start, I pulled the plugs and cleaned them, they were all fouled with oil, and it started again breifly, but it still ran like ****, still bang bang bang like 1 rotor, wouldnt idle, would only go if i gave it heaps of gas, I dont know if the carb is in tune or not?!? I suspect it isn't. Could it be an electrical problem, although I havent tested the compression they seem to sound alright...any Ideas anyone?!? please help. Its due to go for its WOF yesterday, but couldnt cos it wont go.

What is WOF?
What is REG?
Hard to say. Pull the plugs and inspect them if you have a bad rotor, then just one set will be bad. If you have lost compression, then pulling the wires off the bad rotor won't change the way the enigne runs. Check your float levels, check for spark, check timing, check for plugged exhaust.
If your carb is flooding or running too rich, your plugs will foul out too. As a word of caution, my last bad carburetor (factory Nikki) destroyed 3 sets of ngk before I replaced the carb. All after about 10 minutes of running choppy.

You likely lost a carbon apex seal if you been doing very hard rpm driving in a situation some detonation occured, then a seal fractured. But you said it had not been driven yet? I didn't figure out your statement?
IF, one housing/rotor/carbon apex seal set is good, but the other set not, its VERY, VERY hard to start and you SHOULDN'T!!! Take it apart and replace all the apex seals on the one rotor that are bad and the apex seal springs, since they will be flattened. Ask how I know.
Seems when carbon seals break, they break the other 2 in the same housing too.

Thanks, I got it running, not properly yet but at least its firing on bot rotors. i had to remove and clean the plugs 3 or 4 times as they just kept fouling, I left ATF in the engine overnight, and I also decided to learn for myself a bit more about the carb, It harldly even had any fuel goin into it. Thanks for the info tho.

make sure top do your oilchange after the ATF and look for any vaccuum leaks. It's rough and doesnt wanna idle when theres a vacuum leak. Make sure your choke is on too, dont ask me how i know;
Why the **** wont it stay on!!! It should stay on!!!!!!! oh....vrooomm...purrrrr

Hi. Always good to see another Kiwi on the forum!
It's not your main topic, but since people are asking:
A Warrant of Fitness is a complete checkup of the car to make sure it's safe. A registered mechanic checks the brakes work, that there's no rust, that there're no dangerous hood ornaments... all sorts of things. Every car has to be checked every six months to be allowed on the road.
Is it true that you don't have something like that in America? What keeps the old death-traps off the road?
Bye,
