Well this is completely debateable, but I think that it makes more power now because of the more efficent spark (you know, full voltage getting to the plugs). If anything I could say with 100% confidence that it idles smoother and starts quicker. But I do honestly think that its making a little bit more power. If not more power, then at least better throttle response.

EDIT: Just so it doesnt sound like Im totally in love with these or they are miracle workers, I will honestly say that my old ones were so bad (now that I have new ones to compare too) that stock replacements would have seemed like an improvement.

Ok well heres a little update...

I took the whole bracket out and on the back tab thats bolted to the strut tower, I added some foam tape to "wedge" the hose clamps in place. It worked really well. The coils are now in there and they dont move at all. I also noticed that the sharp edges of the bracket where I filed it were scratching the coils and makeing them look bad. My solution to that was to pull the coils out, wrap a few layers of electrical tape around the top where the bracket is so that it will hit the tape, not the bare paint. Also, in my original design, the tops of the coils were kinda loose off the bracket face, so I solved that by putting a strip of foam tape around the opening in the bracket so that the coils now sit on this cushy little pad, and part of the foam overlaps the hole, so when you slide the coil in, it pulls the foam over the shap edges also...If that makes sense. Anyway, here are some pics.

honistly, with the amount of scotch and brandy that i have had tonight.. i donot feel like reading all of this post.. i just wanted to say that it looks bad ***... and nice job on the setup..
(hopefully i will actually read everything at work tomorrow)

Oh yeah, and I have a problem. The damn post on the coil stripped out, but the store says its my fault, not manufacturing so they wont exhange it . It still kinda tightens up and works, but I know that good connections are necessary for an efficent system. I wasnt even tightening it down that hard at all. I was using a bit driver handle with an 8mm socket on it, and it just started to get tight, and then it just got lose all of a sudden . Oh well, Ill think of something.

so you go and buy a new one.. put your broken one back in the package, and return it... they are none the wiser, and you get a new coil

Most autopart stores around here don't exchange electrical stuff, and if they do, they go over the item with a fine-tooth comb... but worst they could do is say they won't return it, and you'll be set for direct-fire

okay. i was actually able to read the whole post now (which is a good thing since i am at work)... very nice job. looks like you are covering all of your bases with this.

i was concerned about mounting the coils horizontally (n the stock location) when i first got mine this past summer.. have not had any problems though. i think that there are enough people here that have done it that it is safe to say that you can.
but none the less, your setup is a rather nice one, if you want to follow the directions.

Yeah, Im worried that they wont take it back because there are noticable scratches on the case from the bracket before I put the tape and foam on, and also from sliding the coil in and out. I dont think that Im going to be able to exhaunge it. No big deal. I can just put two nuts on or something so that the first nut is just a spacer, and then the second one will thread up fine.

BTW - What does the plug on the end of the harness that goes to the coils do? Its got a red wire and a black wire going throgh the plug, and it plugs in kinda down by the headlight motor, but it has nothing to do with the headlight that I could figure out. I had it unplugged when I first put my coils where they are cauyse I had to move the harness over to there, and everything work ok, headlights, signal lights, driving lights, anything that I could think of that it could have been, so whats it do? I extended the wires to it and plugged it back in, but if its not important, I wonder if I can just unplug it again and get rid of it.

Ok heres a picture, sorry its not that good. I cant see where it goes other than towards the headlight motor, and actually through the little metal harness that holds holds the headlight motor wires too. Once again, I emphasize that my headlights still work normally with it unplugged, as do all my lights up front .
