Aquiring another RX-7, need some help.

I know this topic has been beat to death. I searched what I could some were helpful some told me to search and search again.

Ok I might be getting a deal on an 84 GSL. I own a 94 R2 FD and do my work on it. I know rotaries. What I need help on is this a good car to get for daily driving. The thing I'am most afriad of is I hate carbs and this one will have one. There isn't a Gsl-se out there right now and I don't mind having the carb wiht a 12a to just get around in. I just want it to make sure it will start in cold weather even though I live in Texas it gets about freezing in the winter times. I need a couple ideas of what to look for on the car. Besides looking for smoke and how long it lasts, blah blah blah, oil leaks, radiator and heat problems, what else should I look for? This is my first carbed rotary and 12a. I used to own a carbed 69' Chevy so I'am not oblivious to working with them.

You should have no problems. Get an 85 12A GSL, and you should be fine. Remove the rats nest, get a header, and remove the emissions equipment, and the car will be a great beater.

There are other little "reliability mods" just like a 3rd gen as well. Converting the car to mechanical secondaries, DFDLIS ignition, and E-fans to name a few.

Like a 3rd gen, the more simple you keep it, the more reliable (and powerful) it will be.

Good luck.

I just started driving my first RX-7, an '83 GSL. The carb needs rebuilt but it still has been starting fine. It looks pretty easy to work on the carbs, I've already taken the top off to set the floats. An interesting thing is the choke, it automatically releases at like 165 degrees. It's a fun car!

Love that girl movie Directfreak, hehe. Not car related but I think I'll let that slide. haha.

Street King - You might want to look at the underside of the car for rust.. then perhaps for some leaks around the diff - gearbox... the usual stuff
