Changing the apex seals is usually done as part of a complete rebuild process.

Whether it's worth it or not depends on what sort of condition the engine is in, how much milage it has, your budget, your plans for the car etc.

He's right. To get to the rotors you have to take off everything, and take the engine block apart. Once you do that, you will have to replace all of the the seals and gaskets. I got a gasket kit from Atkins Rotary. They usually go for about $140+ for the 13B kit, but they always have one on ebay for $115 and I was the only bidder so I saved some $$$. Here is a couple pics of my engine after I cleaned it all up. I had a broke water seal so I needed a rebuild.

This isn't difficult, but if your engine is running good with good compression and isn't burning blue or white smoke out the tailpipe, you may not want to do a rebuild.
If this is a project car and not the car you drive to and from school/work/grocery store/movie theater/booty call/gym/amusement park then feel free to grab a tool box and go at it.

revhed and project84 are right ... it's a part of the rebuild process, so you need to tell us exactly what you're planning to accomplish or remedy by changing you apex seals.

also, keep in mind, that when we say it's a part of the rebuild process, that means that you'll be changing other seals (and hard parts) as well, and they start to add up pretty quickly.

Ya Whatever Adrian. Anyway I was talking to the person I bought it off and he was saying that he blew the Apex Seals so I was wondering what I was going to do about that. I have about $1200 to spend and other than the seals it was running great. What all would I have to replace other than the gaskets to get at the seals and get it all back together?? thanks.

blow your money on a rebuild kit and a haynes manual or soem ****. then then you name. how many miles on it? cuz if an apex seal got brokeded it mighta messd up the rotor housing. or if its just old it might be too worn and might needa get them lapped or something i dunno, is it the motor they took out the davie drag car?

Yeah, he right. If the seal broke, it usually scars the rotor housing and/ or rotor. If it is so old that the housing is worn down, then it may need some machine work or just need to be replaced. Won't know for sure until you crack it open and take a peek. Lets say you'll need a housing, rotor, apex seals and then the seal and gasket kit which has all the gaskets and water seals for the entire block. Look those up on www.Mazdatrix.com and that should give you a very accurate estimate on what you are looking at spending for all new parts. You can find used rotors and rotor housing for cheaper if you look on the for sale section of this forum, www.thepartstrader.com or ebay, but they are used so you have to be more careful with what you get.
