Apex seal question

Hello fellow rotorheads, I am in need of recomendations. I am rebuilding my 12 as well as streetporting and am wondering what brands of apex seals guys are running and which brand would be the best use of my time and money. I've heard that the OEM mazda ones are good but I've also been looking into those RA Aviation seals also. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter I would greatly appreciate any and all advice you have. thanks

For steel seals,OEM Mazda are pretty much the best.
I inquired about better seals too,when my S5 engine was built.Mazdatrix's engine builder said the factory seals are the best.Im still running fine on the stock 2MM steel seals after 50K miles at 300HP.

- Amen to that. They have worked great for the first 160,000 miles on that old rotary you are trying to rebuild, so why not stick with what works best?

Mazda factory apex seals are the only quality metallic apex seals available. All the aftermarket metallic ones are second-tier at best, if not downright bad. We have never seen one that was even close in quality. There are a few we have not tried (e.g. Goopy) but at this point, I think being skeptical is a very healthy attitude in light of the current offerings.

Amen to that Blake! I've got 212,000 on my motor and it's never been touched. I bet they're getting pretty thin by now though... I had one seal sticking for a while, but a three day event last week took care of that for me. You've got to love a rotary because the more you beat her the more she'll love you for it...

It reminds me of a saying a friend of mine used to use all the time;

"you can treat a girl nice, or you can treat her the way she wants to be treated"...

I used Atkins seals but I do agree that oem are the best however most guys I polled at the Pan-Ams this year all are using Atkins seals.

I just got done rebuilding my daily driven turbo carb rx7 (Which I abuse a lot) after close to two years due to a bearing spin. I used RA Superseals and they were in perfect condition and so were the housings... Same seals and housings went back in the engine, that's how much I trust them... Atkins were too wimpy for my way of abusing the engine...
