Is there anyone out there in the Syracuse or Rochester New York area? I would love to know how a 7 in top shape is supposed to perform. I'd love for someone who really knows these cars to take mine for a spin and point out the obvious flaws. I know if I take it to a mechanic they'll just start telling me to replace things they know may be getting old (and i don't have the money for that right now). The 2 owners before me definitely put a little money into it keeping it in decent shape so it's not a total disaster. I just don't know if I can trust her yet. And I'm driving it 70 miles each way to work.

 

Start with checking for oil leaks. Depending on the year if you have the small oil cooler on the engine, it probably has the o-rings leaking oil and the coolant lines from it may need replaced. Drain all the fluids replacing the tranny and diff with synthetic and the engine with a good non-synthetic oil. Check and replace if necessary the rotor, dizzy cap, plug wires and spark plugs. There is a good thread of FAQ that goes over a lot things you should look for. There are a lot of simple mods that can be made to help it run better, but if you do some searches on 1st generations you will find a lot of good helpful info. I have had my FB for about 9 months now and have it running top notch and drive it daily. hopefully you got ahold of a good solid car that won't need any major repairs.
