what is the air flow like on the first gens? i know that on a second gen, the scoop is in an extreamly low pressure area. if that is true with the first gens too then it might not even be worth molding one in

To a large extent the scope is decorative and shows you advertises you have a turbo. There are even air scopes added on which don't have a hole, its a cheap way of looking fast!
The scope may provide a limited advantage depending on whether there is a suitable exit flow like with a brake scope. Otherwise the air sees it as a blockage and the flow shifts direction upstream such that the scope mainly adds drag.
The critical matter is the flow to the intercooler, and where it is placed.

people do it mostly for cosmetic reasons and to vent some air out of the hood. the t2 innercooler will fit under the hood but if your going for some serious power 250+ a front mount should really be used cause of improved air flow, hell a starion ic can be found for 100-200$. If you want to put one of those scoops in your going to have to do it with fiberglass... i am pretty sure that is what bern did with his

RX7Passion, thanks for the nice words!
Here's a link to my site.
Bern's Turbo
I did my scoop for both aesthetic and functional purposes. I have a FMIC but, the hood scoop does help keep the underhood temps down and looks kind of cool too.
Thanks,

Can you buy the Mariah NACA duct headlight cover (as shown on Bern's car) directly from Mariah (or anywhere else) alone (ie not as part of a huge body kit)? If so where and how much. I looked on Mariah's website but couldn't find it. My other question is it driver's side specific or can it be put on the passenger side, where the air intake is?

on the lines of the headlight duct... do you actually get more restrictive airflow when the headlights are up? or do the headlights breath enough so that it does not matter?

MIKE-P-28,
Continued success with your project... and you're welcome!
yayaRX-7,
Thank you on the words... I guess I kind of have to be at SevenStock, it just happens that I'm the guy along with my club members, who put it together. I hope to see a lot of you 1st gen guys there this year. Hopefully, my 7 will be a little more polished this time around. I hope to have the interior completely finished and the motor a little cleaner. Please stop by and say hi.
T-Rav/riffraff,
The Mariah NACA Duct can be purchased directly from Mariah. Here's their scoop (no pun) on it..
---
Mariah NACA duct fresh air headlight lid: $130. (CORE REQUIRED)
Mariah converts OEM steel lids with a fiberglass NACA duct insert. We have found that pure fiberglass units tend to warp after a very short time.
---
with the headlights up, enough air bleeds around the openings and in the case of my car, I also get air from a buttom opening from the spoiler. Oh yea, the piece is sold for the standard passenger side headlight. Like a lot of things on my car this one was a one-off for the custom air-box I have on my car. No room for an airbox in my car on the passenger side, due to IC piping.
I hope this helps guys and please feel free to e-mail me with any questions @ Bern

cool cool.. thanks bern. i have been thinking about ducking my airbox to the headlight (putting in a duct), or the tII hood scoop.
is there any sort of performance increase with either of these, or is it simple a way to get the temps down under the hood?
