How do you possibly fit a seat in the rear? I just can't fathom it, period. I have about an inch behind my seats as it is. I've had cars with small back seats, but there was at least enough legroom to sit back there, even if it was a bit uncomfortable. The 7 has no legroom whatsoever.

They are small but actually have more room than BMW E31 back seats. Yes they are in the same spot as the bins

Back seats for what? Kids? No way I'd put a kid in the back, except possibly in a car seat. There's just no room.

There's a reason there are no back seats in the US version. It's not up to crash standards, etc.

I guess I'm just satisfied with the car being a 2 seater. Good luck finding a rear seat though.

when i had my cabbin removed i had 2 guys that are lil more than 6 foot in the back n another guy thats juss as tall in the passenger seat. i had to pull my chair all the way up though... i barely had enough leg room to move my foot around. im sure it looked hilarious to other ppl when they saw us walk out of the car. lol...

the seats in the backare far too small for most anyone.. but this is also good coz then no one sits on them,
so they still look like new

mind you i like the look of our Aus/NZ cars with the seats better than the US ones with the bins

plus all the stuff about rust in the bins sounds like alot more hassle!!

-Cheers

i have a back seat

I bought a back seat on ebay, so I went to go put it in. I took out all of the bins and everything, and set the seat in where it was supposed to go. It fit perfect. The only thing was the head room. the leg room was about like a camaro, but i couldnt sit with my head straight up. I had to hunch over to fit. If anybody wants the seat i would be willing to sell it.

they are a dark grey color. There is a small tear in them on the passenger side though. I would be willing to sell them for about $175

Rats. Need burgundy for the GSL-SE. I'd prefer to not have to make a color change.
Thanks, anyway.

i just put some rear seats in my SA, so i know it can be done on even the smallest rear compartments... the seats sit so high my head hits the rear hatch glass. i'll post some pics.

The seats sit high because of the crash bracing that was installed on the '79 and '80 USDM RX-7's due to more stringent crash standards. Then the standards were downgraded in '81 and low and behold, Mazda installed storage bins with the newfound room.

For all the more it's worth as a seat, I think I'd be more inclined to ask people to sit in the storage bins. Or just curl up, probably just as safe.

you would have to remove the bracing in the 79/80 no matter what... otherwise the seat wont fit...

I had 1990 240sx hatch, back seats in my 79... I HAD to cut the braces out to make it fit(braces only found on 79/80)... If I would have got the seat belts and all the brackets and everything, they would have fit and bolted in nice, but you gotta make something for the sides, unless you like looking like a ricer with interior pieces missing......

The back seats that I have seen for the rx7, sit REALLY high, compared to the ones I had installed... I had plenty of head room... just no foot room unless the seat was all the way forward, and if it wasnt, you had to put your feet under the seat to be able to sit.....

But that was with 240sx backseats, dunno about real rx7 seats...
