Anyone Convert to a standard GM Delco Alternator?
Well, there are no yards around here that have any 1st, 2nd, 3rd gens where i could grab an alt... however, one can procure a standard 100amp GM Delco alt for 40-60 dollars at any of the local parts stores...
i'm gonna fiddle with seeing if it'll work, just wanted to know if anyone else made this work?
napa wants like... $180 for a rebuilt 2nd gen alt (with core charge, but i wouldnt have a core) so a cheap delco alt would be nice, as i cant run my stereo and my lights for any long time, or else i wont be able to start my car.

I discovered recently that there's no such thing as a "standard" GM alternator.
That, and my friend's Caprice must have the rarest alternator in the world: 180 degree opposed mounting ears (as opposed to the 60ish degree type), Weather Pak type connector (as opposed to something similar to what we have), and a multi-rib pulley. Couldn't find one anywhere but at the auto parts store, and they had difficulty in finding one, since what was *listed* as being for the car turned out to be incorrect as well.
All that said, "Loyale" style Subaru alternators are a direct fit in our cars, assuming that you also grab the bolts. Some of them even have pulleys for dual belts, if you believe you need that. Nice 65ish amp output.

This is for jeeps, but it will apply to pretty much any car, and the 3000 rpm "turn on" will be no problem in a rex.
