Anybody tried this? 13bt with 12A trans
I'm in the middle of a T2 swap, and I also just sold my house, so I need to move the car soon.
I don't have any of the transmission mods and driveshaft work done yet, so here's what I'd like to do:
Use a 12A trans and 225mm clutch disk with the turbo flywheel and clutch cover.
I know the diameters are different and it's not made to work together, but this would just be to move the car around the yard, load on a trailer etc.
I measured things up, and it looks like the disk would have about 85% of the contact area of a proper turbo setup. The inner 6-7mm of the clutch disk would not contact the clutch cover friction surface, and the outer diameter is smaller than the turbo unit (225mm vs 240mm).
Has anybody ever tried to do this? Are there any show stoppers? It's not clear to me yet whether or not all the relative positions of the flywheel surface to clutch disk), starter gear to ring gear, and clutch fork, etc. are the same (front to back on the motor) or workable.
Also, anybody know of a way to change the splines on the turbo disk? That would be ideal assuming the starter and everything else work.
I know I could swap the flywheel and clutch, but I don't want to drop the cash on that for a temporary setup.

it'll work,i did it about 5 years ago without any problems....i used a 12a tranny, 86 NA flywheel, NA centerforce clutch kit and factory 1at gen slaver cylinder...the 12a tranny took alot of abuse & for 2 years of clutch drops it never broke actually the only thing i ever broke was the gsl-se wheel studs one day with low tire pressure & 6krpm launch ....BTW this idea was given to me by hayes rotary as they've used it before with no vibration problems apparently u can only use the 86 model FW (n326 <--i think) or if u have the $$ buy a NA lighten FW..
turbo FW's are to big for the 12a bell housing and im not sure if a turbo disk will match up on the 12a input shaft splines

Change out the flywheel to a NA flywheel ...... depending on your front couter weight S4 or S5 I would use the s4 na or s5 na flywheel. Then use the na clutch and bolt up the 12a tranny. Also you will have to use the na starter also and the na driveshaft.
