Any One That Can Help Me Is Good

does ANYONE have any idea where i can find a 12A Turbo motor? i think thats the one i want...im not sure...im relativly new to rotaries and am still learning all there is to know, i think i have all the 1st gen RX-7 info down??? does anyone want to try and help me out with what types of cars and engine combos there were? what is a "Cosmo" engine that i keep hearing about? and does anyone know what the best way to get turbo on a 12A would be? im assuming it would be easier to just get a 12A turbo than to add a turbo on? i dunno, any help would be great. so far i know that i have a bone stock 85 GSL with a 12A, HP is unknown, and i have a bone stock 85 GSL-SE with a 13B, HP unknown and i know the difference is (correct me if im wrong) the SE is fuel injected, has a differnt rearend gear ratio, and is 100cc bigger? i also know that the SE was the only car to have the 13B (right?). anyway, if anyone wants to try and help me understand the differnt engine options and so on, id be much obliged

Don't get the Cosmo 12A turbo engine. The ports you could block up with your finger!

Best way to get a turbo 12A happening is to get a 83-85 12A if possible, if not an earlier version and put a T2 turbo on it with a custom manifold. This setup should easily make 300rwhp on around 17psi.

RotorMotorDriver,
The cheapest way to get turbo power to a first gen seems to be to install a drivetrain from a TII second gen(wrecked preferably) into your car. You can get a jap spec TII motor for a grand minus the computer.

The easiest way would be to bolt on a blow though carb turbo. A few companies offer this. Mazdaracing.com has some info on this.

The best(read $$$$$) way would probably be a custom built 13b with aftermarket throttle body and manifold and a custom turbo/manifold set up with an aftermarket computer(motec, haltek, ect.).

The TII setup would give you 180-200 hp with no mods.

The turbo 12a seems to give about 180(stock port) if I am not mistaken.

The custom EFI route will net you over 300+ horses easy.

The 12a turbo was not imported into this country and is a very rare find. I am sure with enough money you could get an importer to ship you one. But better bangs for the buck are out there.

The cosmo engine you mentioned is probably the 20b. A three rotor, agian, non-north American market engine. These are available but will run you about $10,000 or so for a complete turn key motor. And to fit it to a first gen would require major custom work.

These are mostly just my opinions and now you got about half of my $.02

hey corksport can get them every once in a bluemoon for about 950. its way too much money and work for such a tiny turbo and motor, my advice is go for a 13bt like 89+. and cosmos are a car that ajc13b was talking about that was what the 12at's mostly came in. that and 83 rx7s in japan

Get a custom made exhaust manifold and mount the T2 turbo onto it. Easiest and cheapest without changing engines.

Don't get a carby set up, get EFI, do it right and do it once.

The genuine 12A turbo engines came in HB Cosmos and Japan only GT RX7s aka Cosmo RX7.

last time I checked into it Racing beat said that they do not offer a bolt on turbo kit for stock engines for a reason. The motors do not last! But this was a few years ago and things may be different now. with low compression rotors and/or EFI they may have longivity.

then agian I have heard of quite a few na turned turbo cars on this site.

hmmm.........

It will not be cheap though!

yes but it will be a 13b from a 87-92 TII. also get the tranny. you will have to fab or have fabbed: a hood (for top mount intercooler) or a custom FMIC, downpipe and exhaust and somehow get the wireing harnesses to mesh. I suggest buying a factory service manual for the donor and one for the receiving car. Good Luck!

PS also there is a company sell JDM 13bTurbos minus the computer(though they can get it) fro like a grand. and they are lower milage I belive. check out this link: http://www.fc3s.org/ and go to J-spec engines.

Hope this helps out
