Andrew, make absolutely sure that you disassemble it on top of a flat area. There are these silly tiny brass cylinders in the body of the carb that have to go in their specific holes. Don't tilt or shake the carb until you see those rods in their little holes and you write down or draw a diagram to remind you where each one will go when rebuilding. Also write down if a spring is on top or bottom of any of those rods and the places where the silver checkballs go. Just take it slow and you'll see all this stuff...good luck!

If you're just going for the top cover, you won't run into the problem if the rest of the carb stays on the rex....got a cell phone? Take it outside and call 972.340.1373 after 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM and I'll answer what I can sight unseen...going on a break right now...

That thing'll **** ya all up if it's not plugged in.

The stupid POS carb top cover wont come off damnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have taken all screws out of my spare carb( its pretty much fucked), and I have chipped bent and totally messed up the housing and top cover. But it still wont COME OFF!!!! I did it to my spare carb first so I know what I am looking at But it had "bad gas" so the top wont come off. Will i run into this problem on my other carb? THANX LATERZ,
Andrew

Don't know if somebody answered your questions yet, but I believe when referring to "needles and seats", they're referring to the needle valves that are right above the floats. If you take the air horn (cover, if I get your usage right) off, you'll see two plastic blocks hanging down (your floats). Your needle valves are right above them, kind of cylinder looking things with pointy tips. Not really sure why they're called needle valves...I never thought they looked at needles...anyway...
First, are you sure the car is flooding? I'm kind of new to this whole auto-mechanics thing, but I've never heard of a car flooding while it's running. If somebody wants to clarify me on this, please do...all of my flooding problems occured while starting it up...didn't give me trouble while running.
Second, it sounds like maybe you should break down and just try to rebuild the carb. It's a bit more than $10 for the kit (I think the kits run about $25) and hopefully nothing like the dash pot and other doohickies are broken on it (those things add up quick!), but I'm gathering that it needs to be cleaned thouroughly, and while you're cleaning it you may as well rebuild it. I always thought the hardest part about rebuilding the carb wasn't rebuilding it (take digital pictures and make diagrams...anything with a number should have its location marked), but putting it back in. Maybe you can get away without rebuilding, but you'll probably go insane figuring out the exact problem...may as well touch base on everything.
Finally, if your having trouble at high rpms, it sounds like something involving your secondaries. Sadly, I know precisely dick about these except that I think they kick in when the carb needs extra fuel due to a heavy foot.
I'd just take the thing apart (CAREFULLY!) and soak the whole mess in parts cleaner. Since it'll be apart anyway, may as well rebuild it....

I sympathize w/ you brother. I've been fighting carb trouble since last fall. I'd offer advice but I haven't even solved my own troubles yet (see carb base gasket question). I do suggest that you take your time not only on reassembly of the carb itself, but also when you reinstall it to the motor. It might not be a bad idea to replace any of those vacuum lines that have become hard and dried out because they probably won't seal as well when you put it back together. Good luck.

Man, I tried that whole gasket paper/exato knife thing and it SUCKED! Maybe I'm just unskilled, but it just doesn't seem worth the trouble for a gasket of dubious quality.

Yeah, when I got the car, went to put the othercarb on it I bouught the gasket making stuff, and the exacto knife, but it was so crappy I just saids forget it and stuck the carb on the car without a gasket ( Ummm... I wonder if thats my problem????? hmmmm!!!) the idea about putting it on the part and hitting it with a hammer thing sounds like a god idea , maybe I might use the last of the material to make some gasket for it, when the rain clears up I hate rain, when you want to do stuff outside, oh well gives me time to do my homeschool work / ir play on the internet LATERZ,
