Any body know carbs?.........

Well, my car is flooding, so I suspect it is the floats , since i already set it right. Can I set the floats without buying a rebuild kit, or gasket? I have no money, and my mother wants to see if she could ever drive, then i could sell it to her . Then I could fix the 80 and play with it . So I need to set the float and/or clean them. Any body know the easiest way? I want to rebuild it, but I only have $10, until I sell my truck So any help is greatly apprieciated! LATERZ,
Andrew

are you sure its the floats, unless you just set them wrong, I do not think they would just go out of specs. Not enough to cause a major problem. Am I wrong here? Anyone?

Make sure you setup your carb conservatively to get it running. After it runs okay, then go and tweak it out.

Make sure the floats aren't just sticking before you pull it apart. Try tapping on the carb while running about where the needle and seat for the floats are. Don't take much to make them stick.

change your spark plugs after you get it started. After flooding a rotary multiple times, your spark plugs will most definitely be fowled out. Once they are fowled, they never work again at starting easily...You'll always take a while to get it to start...

It always floods after running it , but floods quicker when I run it and change gears at like 4G (just because at 5g smokes ALOT). I have ran it 10 miles before NO SWEAT, but i never brought the rpm's over 2G. lol. It was SUPER SLOW, but was a test . So if my floats are stuck, how long would it be before it dies? And when it dies I can start it back up,IT RUNS LIKE $HIT BUT GETS ME BACK TO MY DRIVE-WAY . I have no idea of whats wrong, besides its flooding. The timing was off, but it is now TDC on idle. Why would the carb flood? Any idea's on what to do, like tests or what not? I can do anything that cost no more than $10 . I will tap on it tomarrow, should I drive it and let it flood, or do it before i drive. I can go get some carb cleaner if you think that would help. I looked at it while runing, and one small barrell was giving it gas, so I took out those little screens that are on the bolt that hold the metal fuel lines to the carb. Well the one that wasnt giving it gas was clogged BAD, so i cleaned it, THE CAR WAS QUIETER, MORE POWERFUL ECT.........BUT STILL FLOODS SO ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE GOOD TO TRY!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANX LATERZ,
Andrew

You need to take the top off the carb and clean out your float bowls. Clean the needles and seats too, they are probably full of the same crap that was in the screen, making the floats hang up.

Sometimes they come off in one piece, sometimes not. I can't say for sure.

If your needles and seats are worn or if there's debris stuck in there they will not seal properly and your carb will flood. Either that or the float levels are incorrect. Try cleaning the carb and adjusting the float levels to spec. If that doesn't work then you'll probably need new needles and seats which usually come with the rebuild kit.

Wouldn't it be easier to look in the "window" on the float bowl and see if the fuel level is correct? That is what the window is for.

Look at the windows all you want. You still have to tear the carb apart to set the floats so why not rebuild it and check the stuff everyone's mentioned already??

The window should allow you to see the correct fuel level. If the fuel is a visible line in the window, then float system is functioning properly. If it is dry looking you have no fuel, if you can't see a line and it looks wet, your floats are not functioning properly and the carb is flooded with fuel. Mazda didn't put them there for looks, actually Mazda was the first to do this on their cars, I believe.

Actually, I'm closer than you think...I'm on I30 on Cockrell Hill Rd in crime city Oak Cliff tapping away here at our new SBC building...were my plate not already full of projects from friends and my garage far from finished, I'd help in a heart-beat... Oak Cliff is just outside of downtown Dallas in case ya haven't wandered in this area before...I actually live in So. Arlington right on the border of Mansfield, though...still waiting on the explanation, jbontke...

Unfortunately, I'd have to see it...all the armchair advice in the world isn't as good as seeing the problem in front of you in the nekkid flesh...
