Any recommendations or ones to stay away from?
I searched and read the FAQs and was surprised to find almost nothing on this. Some of the boards I've been on *cough-MR2-cough* they usually have some thoughts on this topic.

Antifreeze is almost all the same there are only 3 places in the USA that produces all the antifreeze in america. So most likely the cheap stuff is just as good as the pennzoil or peak. I used to work for pennzoil is how I know this.

 

Stay away from the Orange extended life Anti Freeze "Dexcool".

It causes leaks and seepage from gaskets in older vehicles. :-)

 

Use mercedes benz OE fluid myself in all my cars-
some amazing reports of decades-old benz's being pulled apart with water jackets looking like new. Pricey tho: $21/gal

basically:
1)DO NOT MIX ORANGE & GREEN!
2) use distilled water
3) change every 3 yrs

+1 on distilled water.

 

Knew about the distilled water. Been doing that one for years. Just wanted to run it by the knowledgeable folks here to see what's up with the antifreeze.
