Another Smoke/Starting question

I know this has been covered a few dozen times, but I didnt see exactly what I was looking for.

Ive got a pretty decent cloud of bluish smoke on startup, which I understand is pretty normal on an older engine. Question though, it smokes on every startup, even if it only sits for 5 minutes, next startup will produce a cloud of smoke. I also flooded it once and it preceded to smoke for 10 minutes after i got it running again. Is that normal?

Also, the engine is a bit hard to restart when warm. Generally on a initial start, i can get it running pretty quick, like, pump the accelerator once or twice, turn the key and it fires right up if its above 60degrees outside. But, most times on a hot restart, I have to give it a bunch of gas feathering the throttle between 70-90% to get it to turn over, and then sometimes it will die.

Are these two issues typical? Signs of certain peril? Car seems to run/pull pretty good after it gets going. Doesnt smoke once its running.

Sorry for the repetative questions, first rotary and I know nothing of what their supposed to do and not supposed to do. Havent checked the compression myself, but PO said it was like 105-110 or something. No idea how many miles, as the gauge says 60k, but there's no way in hell i believe that number.

generally a hot start issue is usually due to low compression. my first build had this problem from reusing all the old seals. second build confirmed this after micing the apex seals to find they were way out of spec, along with weak springs. the thing would start every time when the engine was cold, but was a bitch to start any other time. the smoke is from excessive fuel, so yes it's normal to smoke if u flood it. and a PO will say anything to make a sell. do a compression check urself, both cold and hot. oil getting by the oil control rings will also result in smokey starts.

105-110 is a freshly broken motor. Good luck hitting that with 60k on the motor.

Does your OMP rod move freely or is it stuck? How is oil consumption? Do you have any outside oil leaks?

Depends what color the smoke is. You might have a broken oil seal that's leaking inside the engine. The only way to fix that is by rebuilding the engine.

oh im sure he's full of it. and im also sure the car's got more than 150k miles, just by looking at the condition of the suspension and steering.

Ive only had the car for 2 weeks, there's no external oil leaks, oil consumption hasnt been anything noticeable yet, but ive only put maybe 200 miles onit.
