Another GSL rearend swap question, axles and master cylinder
I've got an '80 that I race in the SCCA and I've got a GSL rear end, but no master cylinder from it, does anyone either:
- Know the part number or
- Have a GSL master cylinder?
Also, will I NEED the GSL axles or can I re-use the axles from my original non-LSD and non-disc brake rear end?
Oh and by the way.. THIS SERVER TOO BUSY @#(*% IS PISSING ME OFF

You need the other master cylinder, and you also want the proportioning valve mounted next to the master cylinder. Some people use the original stuff, then put a tilton pressure limiting valve in, but still seem to have problems. You could find the part numbers at Mazdatrix, but since you need a master cylinder and a proportioning valve you might want to check the junkyard first.
Its going to be easiest to use the gsl axles. The retaining plate is a 3 bolt pattern vs a 4 bolt pattern on the drum brakes, so the axles won't even bolt in without switching the retainer plate. You have to press the bearings off to switch the plate. If you did all this, you could probably use your original axles. But somewhere I remember hearing stories about grinding 1/8" off the splined end of some of the SA axles to make them work, so I'm not real positive. There were a lot of little things different on the 79-80 models.

yeah I heard there's like TONS of different axles from all the different years. I'm thinking of just taking the axles I've got from the GSL and screwing with the bearings.. don't know what I need to do, but I know I need to do something with them, the bearings are all messed up I think.. hopefully I don't need new ones, I need this sucker on the track by the last weekend in April.. any 1st gen gurus wanna help in the area? I'm in Flint now, gonna be in Royal Oak in a week and a half..
whoa.. you're from Port Huron? didn't notice until now.. I'm up in Flint now, and my fiancee is from Marine City.
