Announcing My Supercharger Project, It needs a name!!
Announcing My Supercharger Project, It needs a name!!
Well you heard it here, My red 1985 GSL-SE in april will be undergoing a massive change. Theres a few turbo fbs out there now but this will be something different, something TORQUEY! How massive you ask? Well let me go down the list.
First and formost we will be adding a 7" CAMDEN supercharger along with:
What are you turbo guys running for mufflers? Ive heard the racing beat one is too restrictive. Any suggestions you guys have or ideas u have for the project? I havent gone into the extras that are gonna go with this such as gauges and all that, but it will be there!
Stay tuned, because I will have a comlete set of videos and pictures, and time slips and dyno runs come summer to show it all off! Im aiming for 12s here, but well see!
This thing is gonna be a torque beast!
First and formost we will be adding a 7" CAMDEN supercharger along with:
- A S5 TII block, large streetported 3 window main bearings, oil pump mods, 3MM Atkins Seals
- S4 water pump and housing
- FD alternator
- ROTARYSHACK weber 48MM DCO carb
- Centerfoce Dual Friction clutch
- S4 TII transmission
- Custom Drivshaft
- 4.44 ring gear
- Torsen Differential
- possibly lightened steel flywheel
- 10 and 6 PSI pulley set
- Racing beat Street port exhaust system with custom muffler

I know a guy with a SP 12A built up and it has a 7" Camden on it. He runs a 550CFM Holley 4BBL and 10PSI boost. Its got major problems due to the builder of the engine. But he claims to get 170RWHP due to the engine builders mistakes.
I suppose yours will break 250HP.
As for a name.... hmmmm....
I'll have to think about that one.

i don't know, with the 7" pulley im thinkin he wont be much over 200hp
some 2nd gen guys are running the smaller pulley, and not even hitting 200hp, of course thats on a stock port but...
and that doesn't make any sense ^, how did the builder screw up??? not port it correctly, im thinking maybe some insane overlap or something? I don't think peak horsepower is going to be much over 200, but it will have one hell of a torque curve, thats where the supercharger does well

keep in mind those guys are using the stock ports with the stock fuel injection system. Im using a carb and allready runnig 14s on a stock port. I can bet you I will break well over 200rwhp.
This is a very different setup than the second gen guys are using. And after talking to dan atkins, it appears I will be the first one to try this combination here. Who knows? I belive this setup will work wonders. Again we will all see when I have time slips and dynos

thats true, i hope to see some better results.... how are you going to setup the carb?? drawthrough? i remember seeing dans pickup, the holley just sat right on top of the blower, is there an adapter for the weber?? i want to know more details!

how bout "project RX-7 so torqey my teeth are lodged in my brain"
or simply "project teeth in brain"
as a side note, here at college we used so many xmas lights in front of our house (around 5,000) we called it "project sunshine"

"Project Ring Stripper", or "Project Can o' Nutz 'n Bolts" because that's what your diffy's gonna resemble!
"Mean Mother Torqua"?
I dunno. I'm usually good at this. I'll try again later, but for now, I like Macnanny's suggestion.

I don't know, I kinda like "Mean Mother Torqua"
Have fun with it. I tell ya, if I went forced induction, it'd probably be a supercharger, 'cause it's rarer to see, and torquier.

...and moniker it with badges the same way. ( will take a little work to get an extra SE and make the E into a C with a dremel and a steady hand, but would be cool, I think )

And as for the 9 inch, i dont understand why people like it so much, because it isnt as strong as the 8.8 inch rear end. The actual diff itself is stronger but the housing sucks on the 9 inch. PLus the 8.8 is a much more efficent diff overall.
ANYWAY, I like "Project Torque"
I'll probably go with that. And as for the carb, atkins makes an adapter for a weber sidedraft carb. It will be a draw through setup. Intercooling wont really be a problem because of the atomazation of the fuel.
Seriously if you felt my upper intake manifold after a hard run it feels like ICE!!!
On second thought "mean motha torqua!" is nice too
Gotta decide!

Well guys PROJECT TORQUE is the name. The first upgrade will be starting shortley which will be upgrading the rear end to a 4.44 ring and pinion, and using a TORSEN differential out of a miata. I havent heard of anyone on this site trying it, so IM really curious to see the results. The results look promising.
After that, It'll be time to aquire the Jspec S5TII long block. Better get ahold of FC3S.org now. Anybody else know a good place to get a used jspec s5 tII motor?

i forget the link, but i know that there is a site that sells re-made jspec s5 motors exclusively...
go ahead and post on the 2nd gen forum, they might be kinda mean over there, but some of them are helpful (after all, i had a 2nd gen for about 8 month and was on that forum w/out even gazing through the 1st gen section).
also, kevin landers (basically the 2nd gen master) is a good person to ask, search for him also on the 2nd gen forum.
