Alum. 2nd gen water housing on a 1st gen.
Hello Folks,
Well I just mounted an aluminum water housing (from a second gen car) on my first gen. in order to save some weight, (I guess I saved about 8 pounds). I realize that there may be a write up on it, but I thought I would post what I have done.
This was pretty simple. I put the aluminum housing on with new gaskets. I used the water pump from the first gen car. The second gen uses one less stud that the first gen housing, this meant there was no place to locate the alternator support. So, I took out a tap and cut 10 mm by 1.25 threads into the open hole left in the water pump from the missing stud. I then screwed in a stud and attached the alternator here. This was simple and seems to work well.
