Alternator temps...

Anyone check the temps of their alternators? I had just bought one of those raytek laser temp guns and was shooting random things in my engine compartment. After a 30 min drive home from work ac lights and radio. I popped the hood. My alternator was at 310*! Just did the GM alt swap and was wondering if this is normal? Seems a little high to me. I don't remember burning my hand when touching the old alt?

THanks...

At 140 amps, that seems about right. Remember that electric items generate heat: TV's, computers, game consoles, etc. With the RPMs that the stator winds at in cars, it's not uncommon for them to reach such high temperatures. Don't worry about something like that, and keep on driving.
