Angry Alternator needed due to complications

Hey guys, last night I made it back barely in time before the last 1volt left in my new Optimus Red Top battery was completely drained. I put a voltage meter on the battery today and it read 11.2 volts...but I hadn't charged it yet, I then started it up, tested the alternator and it read 12.1 volts out of the original one and 10.5 out of the "new" one. I then traced the wire from the alternator down and touched the voltage meters pin to the end of it to see if I was losing volts through it, it had only .01 less volts...so 10.4 volts at the end of the wire, so there is virtually no loss and the ring connector at the alternator is fine...so all I can think of is the alternator is going bad...as well as the "new" one.

By the way, my car is a 1984 GSL...anyone have any new or rebuilt alternators they can sell me for a good cheap price?

I have one I can spare. But, I suggest you can get a better deal by simply going to Kragen/Checker/Shucks and get a new one with a lifetime warrenty. I bought one for my '79 and had it replaced several times no cost when brush's wore out. The one I have to spare is from a dead '81 that I bought there.

Only think it cost around $40, so money well spent and about the same as what it would cost to buy mine and cover shipping.

By the way, you should check that you don't have an electrical short somewhere that is draining your battery excessively.

What you described sounds really close to an experience of mine.

Have you taken the alternators in to be tested? Did they test bad?
